Muscat to impose hefty fine for illegal camping 

Muscat: Muscat Governorate has issued new regulations for camping in the region, aimed at ensuring public safety and environmental protection.

A fine of OMR 200 will be imposed on anyone who camps without a license in Muscat Governorate. 

Muscat Governorate said in a statement that camping, whether in caravans, tents or sessions for more than 48 hours is not allowed without a permit. An Insurance Payment of OMR 100 must be paid. The licence is applicable for seven days and is renewable.

The camping site requirements are

1. Camping must be in municipality-specified areas.

2. Maintain a 10-meter distance from the beach.

3. Keep a 5-meter distance between campsites.

4. Stay away from fishing areas and restricted zones.

For safe and healthy camping the specialised site must be kept clean during the entire period of use, avoid damaging crops and wild plantations, avoid burning or landfilling wastes, and avoid using unhygienic mobile restrooms.

Technical requirements at camping sites are:

1. The issued licence number must be displayed prominently at the front of the caravan, tent or session.

2. Use of concrete or other construction materials is strictly prohibited.

3. Car parking, entry, and exit to and from the site should be organised.

4. The licensee may not transfer the licence to a non-licensee, or practice the activity in a location other than the location specially specified in the licence.

5. Commit to sound- silencing generators.

6. Avoid paving or levelling the site with heavy machinery.

Penalties for violating camping regulations:

1. A fine of OMR 200 will be imposed for camping without a permit.

 2. A fine of OMR 50 will be imposed for violating the regulations and requirements.

3. Repeated violations will result in immediate removal from the site.
